Summer has herald a chic new arrival on the style scene of limited edition luxury bags from Âme Moi, a brainchild of Portuguese couple Alberto Gomes and Margarida Jacome.
They pushing the crafts of their home area, around Porto with their latest collection of limited edition bags.
Before the release, Jacome had spent time researching local high-quality leather work, embroidery and blanket weaving, and set up her own atelier to create modern bags featuring these crafts. After launching in Portugal two years ago, the brand has just arrived in London, with small selections at Selfridges and Harrods.
The bags in the new collection are moderately sized and light, mostly box shaped but surprisingly roomy, with a secure double-flap fastening, in Mediterranean shades like tomato red or bright blue, as well as black or navy, each with a horsehair tassel that unscrews to exchange for another colour. The traditional black and white diamond pattern of the Manta Alentejana blanket fabric is worked on an embroidered version N178, 251.26 (£475) or as printed leather with an ochre trim on a larger style N249, 551.76 (£665).
Now the brand is venturing into exotic skins with a python-trimmed limited-edition range that has just launched in Harrods. Some of the pieces in the collection are: The boxy Lisbon Mini comes in red or black leather, with the base and lower sides in matching python, while the larger Lisbon is in black leather with graphic white python base and vertical side stripes. A softer, plainer style, Lapa, comes in all python. The pieces are available at Harrods, www.harrods.com, and Selfridges, www.selfridges.com.
