Test driving the new Black Badge Ghost by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on a sunny Saturday morning in an exclusive estate in Lagos is an experience one would not want to trade for anything. The Test and Drive event for exclusive media representative was put together by Coscharis Motors, the exclusive dealership of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Nigeria.
The beast looks imposing on the well tarred road as I took my seat behind the wheels. The car unleashed, and unexplainable intensified aura and comfort. It is a car with more power, more audacity, more spirit unlike the cars made by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars before it.
I could tell with the design and the interior that it is the boldest expression by Rolls-Royce specially crafted for those who will never conform to the norm.
As the name implies, the Black Badge Ghost comes in Black, a darker state of grace.
The black colour gives it a sculptural grace transformed by a daring aesthetics. The automobile is a tenacious incarnation of elegance, and a beacon for those who defy convention.
Abiona Babarinde, The General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications of Coscharis Group, says Rolls Royce Motor Cars Lagos has brought the showroom to “our typical Rolls Royce customers which are high net worth individuals (HNIs) while our media partners experience the brand at the same time. As we speak, we already have a potential prospect checking out the car and this tells you the strategy behind the selection of this venue.”
Babarinde says what distinguishes the Black Badge from the standard Rolls-Royce are the black Spirit of Ecstasy, carbon fibre wheels, blacked out front grille, badges, boot lid and exhaust tips as well as an improved performance.
With a firsthand experience of the car during the Test and Drive, closing the doors with the push of a button, the double-glazed glass and well insulated body frame I was wrapped in absolute luxury with the outside noise totally locked out!
The darkened chrome elements and carbon fibre composite wheels accentuate Ghost’s sculptural purity, evoking an enigmatic poise as you glide through the night. The refined thrill of Black Badge Ghost continues with the horseshoe sweep design of the interior, cocooning you in a visceral experience of luxury.
Within the opulent interior, the Piano Black veneer surrounds you with an echo of darkness. The well-designed seat offers unimaginable comfort as my back was cocooned by the massage seat.
A gentle step on the pedal, the car picks up instantly. The Rolls-Royce Black badge is powered by a twin turbo 6.6litre V12 engine that emits 603hp and 840Nm of torque (40hp and 60Nm more than the standard Ghost) with an impressive 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds.
It comes with an 8 speed GPS guided automatic transmission, 21-inches wheels, a 12.3 inch infotainment display, the black badge Infinity Symbol, mirrors on the C-Pillar, refrigerator and other features.
