The Haven Events Centre at GRA Ikeja hosted hundreds of personalities from government, media, music, business and Nollywood. Guests included; Abike Dabiri and husband, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Bukky Ajayi, Wunmi Obe, Olu Jacobs, Kunle Bantefa, Ngozi Nwosu, Sola Onaiga, Bimbo Akintola, Nobert and Gloria Young, Patrick and Ireti Doyle, Tony Umez, Kanayo .O. Kanayo, Ego Boyo, Ali Baba, Teju Babyface and a host of others.
In a touching tribute, Chris Ihidero, one of the students who benefitted immensely from Igwe’s tutelage recalled how he met the late film maker.
“How do I begin to describe to you the eight amazing years of my life spent with a great soul? Where do I begin? Days spent at her feet, bowls of eba and oha soup between us, as we talked about filmmaking? The many afternoons we spent analysing what was wrong with Nollywood and what needs to be done for us to achieve the industry’s true potential?
“Days spent watching her teach classes filled with people who were novices on Day one and by the final day of class were ready to take on the world? Moments of reassurance whenever I had doubts about my abilities, whether about work or in my personal life? Her absolute trust where money was concerned?”
Kunle Bamtefa and Ego Boyo who had worked closely with Igwe on the set of her famous soap, ‘Checkmate’ could not hold back tears as they spoke glowingly of Igwe.
Amaka Igwe will be buried on Friday, June 13th 2014 at Ndiuche Arondizuogu in Imo State, her marital home.
