One of the legends of Raggae, Majek Fashek, who is believed to have made a debut with Reggae with his popular track ‘Send down the Rain, another legend, who happens to be antagonistic with his music is Victor Eshet of the Mandators, and the third is popular reggae artist, Raskimono; all three have teamed up to organize ‘African Mix Reggae.’
According to the organisers, the festival is a wakeup call for all Africans to embrace conscious music which is reggae, the first of its kind. The essence of the festival is to promote tourism. Several guest artistes will be invited from Nigeria, such as 2face Idibia, King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, other artistes to perform at the concert will come from Jamaica and other countries.
The festival will he held from 3rd of October to 5th of October, 2014 in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Calabar respectively.
Eshet says the three legends were on their own, when they discovered that they held common views and likeness when they decided to come together to organize ‘African mix reggae, which will be a mixture of Nigerian traditions and customs.
“Music builds up a nation and reggae is the kind of music that will build up Nigeria, especially with the situation of insecurity in the country,” he says.
He explains that reggae will appeal to a larger number of people, including the rich, middle class and the poor.
Mashek Fashek, who is majorly into African reggae encouraged the media to promote reggae music as it appears that they do not balance the mix in music because Reggae is not involved.
Victor Mashek said during the old times, people listen to Reggae music but don’t anymore and that is why the crisis in the country is on the increase.
“Reggae is African and we should listen to what belongs to us and promote it, since the kind of music we listen to affects our behaviour,” he explains.
