Although a premium car, the XE is surely affordable

The Eko Hotel & Suite was a beehive of activity on a warm Friday morning in July. It was the opening of the 2015 edition of Tech+. Perhaps what makes this year’s event different is the unveiling of the Jaguar XE. It is the first time in the history of Coscharis Motors Ltd that any of its luxury brand would be unveiled as part of an event instead of as a standalone. Coscharis is the first to launch the XE in sub-Saharan Africa.

As we walked into the hall for the kick off of the opening ceremony, there at the far end of the hall stood, the Jaguar XE in its glory, the latest bride on the stable of Coscharis.

Cletus Aregbesola, brand manager, Jaguar Land Rover at Coscharis had earlier told me that morning before the unveiling that the XE is a subtle and new way Coscharis wants to blend its high end brands with technology.

“We are looking at how to tap into technology since the XE is a technology based car,” says Aregbesola. “The XE is a cross gender. Jaguar has been seen as a masculine brand. However, the XE is designed to appeal to the female gender. What is unique about the XE is the technological evolution. For instance, its stereo is not the usual kind you are used to you can only play your songs through USB or Bluetooth from your phone.”

The XE is for hard working and ambitious young male and female executives and entrepreneurs

The Jaguar XE comes in five models which include the XE R-Sport (2.0L), XE Supercharged (3.0L), XE Pure (2.0L), XE Prestige (2.0l) and XE Portfolio (2.0L). The Jaguar XE is designed as an extraordinary every day vehicle that combines the legendary Jaguar sporting character with systems that empower the driver as well as enhancing the driving experience. What stands the XE out is its reclinable rear seat.

The outstanding power, grace and agility of the XE will make it a car of choice for upwardly mobile young professional. “We are positioning Jaguar XE,” says Cosma Maduka, president/CEO, Coscharis, at the event, “as the leading and preferred premium compact sports saloon within the next two years. Consequently, the focus is to project it as a fleet variant and our retail sales directed at hard working and ambitious young male and female executives and entrepreneurs in their late 20s and mid 40s.”

Although a premium car, the XE is surely affordable. Abiona Babarinde, general manager, marketing and corporate services, Coscharis Group, explains that pricing is crucial to achieving Jaguar’s set target within the next two years. According to him, the good news is that the Jaguar XE unlike the other compact sport saloon in its segment is premium but affordable. “Like every other Jaguar model range, it offers value for every naira spent,” he explains. “We have come to know that Jaguar customers are people who want to be different. The Jaguar XE amplifies this.”

The Jaguar XE comes with very interesting features as it is instantly recognisable with its sculpted bonnet sweeping over to the intense stare of its headlights, outlined with J blade LED lights.
