The new yacht was launched at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2019 and is being built by Dutch company Sinot. It was rumoured Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gate commissions eco-vessel expected which is billed to go to sea in 2024. However, the Dutch yacht maker, Sinot, denied the rumour in a statement.
Sinot is working on a yacht entirely powered by hydrogen, meaning that its only emission will be water. It is expected to operate at a top speed of 17 knots, with a range of 3,750 nautical miles.
For design and development, Aqua derived its inspiration from owners’ lifestyles, the fluid versatility of water and cutting-edge technology, combining all of this in a 112m superyacht with truly innovative features.
The massive superyacht has five decks and can cater to 14 guests and 31 crew members. The design has been inspired by the ocean and Aqua’s curvaceous exterior lines flow from the stern across a 360-degree viewing capsule.
Aqua has four guest staterooms, two VIP staterooms and one owner pavilion. To accommodate the 31 crew members the yacht also has 14 double crew cabins, two officer cabins and one captain’s cabin.
However, a circular staircase is one of the yacht’s defining features, winding down from the top deck to the lower deck. The main architectural draw of the staircase is at its lowest level where two massive liquified hydrogen tanks can be seen in their hexagonal textured surface.
Onboard, the interrelated requirement for privacy and space has been addressed with an extraordinarily large owner’s pavilion. To accentuate the link with the water, much thought has been devoted to making the ocean as accessible and visible as possible.
At the lower decks, the usual parameters for propulsion, range and speed have been translated into a complete hydrogen-electric system, whose physical dimensions and operational characteristics reinforce a comprehensively innovative superyacht experience.
At Sinot, interiors are designed to the highest standards and customized according to the wishes of the clients, imprinting their personality, ambitions, background and achievements. Each detail of the layout and space is skillfully crafted and shaped while incorporating technical innovation. Rare woods and veneers are integrated with the finest fabrics, leathers and bespoke metals and glass, combined with custom-built interiors and furniture.
The interior and exterior design, styling and furniture present the yacht as a ‘total work of art’, with multiple art and craft forms to create an overall design. This aesthetic term, which has been used in architecture from the renaissance to the days of early modernism, encapsulates all conceivable exterior and interior design aspects; the overall styling, integration of innovative technology, space planning aboard, the use of daylight and artificial light, architectural details, comfort, furniture design, custom decoration and art pieces.

“For development of Aqua we took inspiration from the lifestyle of a discerning, forward-looking owner, the fluid versatility of water and cutting-edge technology, to combine this in a 112-meter superyacht with truly innovative features,” designer Sander Sinot said.
“Our challenge was to implement fully operational liquid hydrogen and fuel cells in a true superyacht that is not only groundbreaking in technology but also in design and aesthetics,” the lead designer, Sander Sinot, said in a press release.
It also has an indoor health and wellness centre featuring a gym, a hydro-massage room, and a yoga studio.
Apart from being cutting-edge, the vessel is also uncompromisingly luxurious, with an infinity pool, helipad, spa, and indoor pool. The interior and exterior of the boat took over five months to conceptualise and show a space-age style design. However, despite the rumours of a Gates investment, the Aqua is still just a concept.
