Kavita Chellarams opens new art gallery in Lagos named kó.
Dedicated to promoting modern and contemporary art, Chellarams decides to venture into the gallery after years of developing Arthouse Contemporary’s satellite projects, Arthouse-The Space and Arthouse Foundation, which organized exhibitions and artist residencies.
” I am excited to create kó as a separate and unique gallery entity. This will allow us to create focused exhibitions on a regular basis, delve more deeply into artists and art historical topics, generate research and publications, and continue to promote Nigerian art on the global stage,” she said in a statement.
Chellarams explained that kó’s focus includes championing Nigeria’s leading artists from the modern period and celebrating emerging and established contemporary artists across Africa and the Diaspora. “I have been able to develop relationships with several emerging and international artists over the years through our artist residency programme, and I am eager to work alongside many of these artists as a gallerist.”
kó will open on Friday, 25 September 2020, 12-7 pm, with a solo exhibition by Kadara Enyeasi, one of the early artist residents at the Arthouse Foundation. This exhibition is a departure in Kadara’s work as he experiments with poetry, painting, and abstraction while retaining his philosophical approach to art production.
Located at 36 Cameron Road, Flat 2, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, kó will be by appointment, due to the continued need for social distancing.
To attend the inaugural exhibition of Kadara Enyeasi you will have to book appointments in one-hour slots, with a maximum of four visitors at a time. All visitors are required to book an appointment in advance by submitting the online booking form here.
